As you know, I’m a Mom. And MyKids have been wonderful at helping me to see the sense of humor in things. Naturally, we’ve had some lovely moments where we create various jokes of our own.
For instance, with the help of an “ambiguous” word list, one can choose individual words to fashion a pun-style joke from. This is especially entertaining for elementary, middle, and high school students — even anyone who is still a child at heart.
So, here are some of the ones I’ve created, and I’m excited about sharing them with you. Enjoy!
1) Word = play.
Question: Why were the birthday twins disappointed when they received the gift of a see-saw?
Answer: They preferred a level playing field.
2) Word = make.
Question: Why were the students very quiet when their drama teacher asked them a question?
Answer: None of them wanted to make a scene.
3) Word = light.
Question: A 10-year-old boy wanted to start a garden, but he needed his parents’ permission. At breakfast one morning, he was overjoyed to find an avocado lamp on his plate. Why?
Answer: His parents just gave him the green light.
4) Word = clear.
Question: A homeroom teacher was told she had the honor of having a set of triplets in her classroom. When she asked the trio’s parents for clues on how to best remember the triplets’ names, the parents replied, “We made sure to make it very clear.” The teacher looked at the kids’ names on the attendance list and smiled. Why?
Answer: The triplets were named Costas, Crystal, and Louden (as in “coast is clear, crystal clear, loud and clear”).
5) Word = pass.
Question: Why did the students decide to fly kites from the windows and throw multi-hued paper airplanes in the middle of their examinations?
Answer: They wanted to pass their tests with flying colors.
6) Word = call.
Question: Why did the drama class stop practice when the armored prop mannequin appeared on center stage?
Answer: Because they called it a knight (as in “call it a night”).
7) Word = point.
Question: Why did the schoolgirl take her pets — a porcupine, a hedgehog, and a sea urchin — to Show-N-Tell?
Answer: She definitely wanted to make a point.
8) Word = catch.
Question: A Language Arts teacher brought her fancy camera and flash to photograph her students. Why did she feel very well-rested after taking the entire class’s pictures?
Answer: Because the class photo of her assembled students shows that she managed to catch 40 winks (remember, 40 winks = a nap).
9) Word = square.
Question: The cafeteria ran out of the regular-sized food trays, so the staff had to serve lunch on even-sided plates. The kids who got the even-sided plates were overjoyed and considered themselves luckier than those with the regular-sized food trays. Why is that?
Answer: Because they got the more wholesome, nutritious square meal.
10) Word = touch.
Question: Why did the new pupil feel slightly honored when the teacher asked all the students in the room to introduce themselves and each shake her hand?
Answer: Because she just experienced a touch of class.
These are just a sampling of some of the creative jokes I’ve penned, inspired by MyKids. I keep a collection of these original creative jokes, and I’ll be sure to add more, since it’s healthy to cultivate good humor.
